We had a few storms in late July that you may have heard about (or not!). Our home fortunately was not damaged. The storm had straightline winds of 70 mph, not gusts, sustained winds of 70 mph. Our neighborhood, with all of its tall, beautiful and majestic oaks, was hit the hardest in the entire DC area. These pics are just a sampling of the damage in our neighborhood. All of the pics are within 3 blocks of our house. In all, approximately 15+ homes had trees fall on them (or through them!), approximately 8-10 cars were heavily damaged or crushed/totaled and we were without power for 2-1/2 days. There were at least another 20+ homes that trees struck and damaged (but did not actually land on). There were chainsaws going for a week solid and 6-8 cranes in our neighborhood lifting trees off of homes. As you can see many of the trees were two to three feet in diameter. No one was hurt and we have lots of wood chips available now.
